That amp is most likely a Peavey Classic Chorus 130, which the band brought on tour as a monitor for Thom after Ed switched Mesa Boogies. He called the Peavey a “great transistor amp” in the same interview. In a 2019 interview with “That Pedal Show”, Ed revealed that when Radiohead was first signed, they didn’t have the budget to buy him a new amp, so he was stuck with his Peavey solid-state ( youtube). Plank once again used the amp as a stage-side monitor, and it features the same taped settings as the year before! This photo from the recording of In Rainbows shows the Mesa Boogie Maverick with a couple of rack units (possibly including the Marshall JMP-1 Pre-Amp) on top of it. The amp was also used by Plank, the band’s guitar tech, as a stage-side monitor for Thom’s guitars during the 2010 Atoms for Peace tour and for the 2011 Radiohead tour. The amp is visible in several pictures of Thom from those sessions. This amplifier was first seen in photos from Radiohead’s Canned Applause studio during the recording of In Rainbows, suggesting that it had been kept there. Note that this amp can’t be Thom’s blonde Maverick combo, because the Maverick wasn’t released until April 1994. The amp is visible in fan footage from the band’s show in San Francisco on October 24, 1993. Thom and Jonny each had a blonde Mesa Boogie combo during Radiohead’s September-November 1993 North America tour in support of Belly. Aside from a little experimentation during the recording of In Rainbows, Thom very rarely deviated from his primary style of amplifier during any of these periods. ![]() His amplifier usage can be loosely divided into three periods: early Radiohead (Fender Twin Reverb), Kid A/Amnesiac (Marshall Bluesbreaker), and late Radiohead (Vox AC30). Unlike guitars, which he has dozens of, Thom has very few amplifiers. Microphones Guitars Amplifiers Effects Pedals Pedalboards Keyboards Percussion DJ Overview
